Heart of Alabama Food Bank

The Face of Community Impact

The Heart of Alabama Food Bank (HAFB), previously known as the Montgomery Area Food Bank, has been fighting hunger in Alabama since 1986. Led by their CEO Michael Coleman, HAFB provides nutritious protein, produce, and dairy to neighbors in 35 counties facing hunger and food insecurity. Twelve of these counties are served directly out of their facility in Montgomery. Over 217,000 seniors, adults, and children are fighting food insecurity in these counties, but HAFB’s team of 52 professionals is determined to win this battle.

Their motto, “Feeding Hope By Fighting Hunger,” drives the HAFB mission.

The HAFB model is to source and distribute food to different community agencies, who then distribute it to those in need. Last year, they distributed over 27 million pounds of food, equaling 22.4 million meals. The CEO Publication recognized Coleman among the Top 20 Most Dynamic CEOs for 2023.

Future plans include programs addressing veteran and college hunger and addressing root causes of poverty through economic mobility programs and collaborations. HAFB is so grateful for its donors, volunteers, agency partners, and other stakeholders whose dedication ensures the HAFB never settles for ordinary in the fight against hunger.
