Founded in 1920 and just minutes from historic downtown Montgomery, The Montgomery Zoo has been a cherished destination for families across Alabama. With a range of exotic animals, engaging rides, and delightful gift shops, the zoo promises fun and excitement for visitors of all ages, year-round.
At the heart of The Montgomery Zoo’s mission is a commitment to enhancing wildlife futures through educational and conservation programs, community outreach, and fostering respect for the natural world. The zoo’s efforts have global significance, having successfully bred nine Pygmy Hippo calves since 2016, bolstering endangered species breeding programs worldwide.
The zoo showcases a diverse array of exotic animals from five continents, covering land, sea, and sky. Visitors can explore attractions such as an aquatic learning center, an indoor museum, and unique behind-the-scenes encounters. Fun rides like the train and sky lift offer panoramic views of the zoo, while a sit-down eatery and two gift shops provide additional enjoyment.
Looking ahead, the Montgomery Zoo broke ground on their new Admissions and Gift Shop complex in June 2025. Construction is expected to be completed in July 2026. During this construction phase, visitors enter and exit the Zoo at the Mann Museum location, 325 East Vandiver Blvd, Montgomery, AL 36110. Also, the zoo is actively fundraising for a new state-of-the-art reptile facility to replace the existing exhibit.
