Amanda Curran, Chief Meteorologist, WSFA 12 News
WSFA 12 News has been a trusted source of news and weather for Central Alabama since it began broadcasting on December 25, 1954, with its first program airing A Christmas Carol. More than 70 years later, the station continues to serve Montgomery and the River Region with local journalism, severe-weather coverage, and community storytelling across television and digital platforms. Today, WSFA/WCOV has a team of 99 employees, including Chief Meteorologist Amanda Curran, who joined WSFA in July 2014.
At its core, WSFA 12 News is focused on delivering timely, trusted local journalism and life-safety weather coverage when the community needs it most. The station provides continuous digital updates, live-streaming coverage, breaking news and weather, and stories that connect viewers to the people and issues shaping the River Region. Its digital-first approach allows WSFA to publish and update information throughout the day, ensuring viewers can stay informed without waiting for the next newscast.
What sets WSFA apart is its combination of decades of community trust with the urgency and accessibility of modern digital journalism. For more than 70 years, the station has built its reputation through accountability, public service, accuracy, and award-winning weather coverage. While WSFA has received countless honors for its broadcast and digital work, the station considers earning and maintaining the trust of its viewers its most meaningful accomplishment. That commitment is reflected in a culture centered on urgency, accuracy, service, and strong editorial discipline.
Looking ahead, WSFA is continuing to invest in faster breaking-news workflows and stronger day-to-day digital publishing while expanding opportunities to serve the River Region through its recently acquired sister station, WCOV, the FOX affiliate in Montgomery. Together, the stations will offer more opportunities to watch WSFA News, an improved programming lineup, and increased collaboration on projects that benefit the community. Through every change, the station’s greatest strength remains its people—employees committed to serving viewers through good times and bad and making WSFA the place they turn first for breaking news and weather.
