The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC), established in 1979, has been empowering women in the construction industry across the River Region through education, support, and networking opportunities. NAWIC remains dedicated to uplifting women in a variety of construction-related careers and making a meaningful impact on the community.
Open to women in all facets of construction, NAWIC membership includes those in trades, project managers, laborers, accountants, project engineers, landscape designers and architects, human resource managers/positions, realtors, designers, environmental professionals, owners, marketing, etc. The association also welcomes women from related fields such as finance, legal, and other complementary industries.
Monthly chapter meetings, held every second Tuesday at 11:30 a.m., offer members valuable networking opportunities and insights from industry-related speakers. These gatherings provide a platform for connecting with peers, learning about professional development, and staying updated on industry trends.
Community involvement is a cornerstone of NAWIC’s mission. The organization partners with local non-profits like The Family Sunshine Center, The Boys and Girls Club, River Region Pregnancy Center, First Choice Women’s Medical Center, Little Free Libraries, The Prattaugan Museum, and more. They held their 2nd Annual Golf Classic in November. Additionally, NAWIC provides scholarships through its National Office for students pursuing construction-related fields and has hosted Block Kids, STEM Events, and their first Literary Fair & Parade at the Wetumpka Public Library and downtown Wetumpka. The association has also established nine Little Free Libraries across the River Region to promote literacy.
